The newest member of our family is CRAZY! It's like caring for a newborn/toddler hybrid with all the energy of the toddler and the baby-proofing that goes along with it and it doesn't let you sleep with all the crying, like a newborn, except you can't put a diaper on it or put it in a crib or carseat like a newborn.  Getting her, made me think of all the stories you hear when parents bring home a new baby and think, "What have we done?" because it's so much more work than a baby, I swear! I went into it knowing all this, too.  And then, add winter to it, yeah.  And despite all this, we're in love with her and enjoying all her antics.  She's just like every other pup with her energy and gnawing everything she can (including us) and her ability to make us laugh, even when she's being naughty.  The kids adore her so very much and are quite helpful keeping track of her because, did I mention you can't take your eyes off her, not even for a second?  She's doing very well with going outside and going and shivering all the while, but she's not sleeping well yet. Spring, which is when we're allowed to socialize her with other dogs and get her out to run and play, can't come soon enough!
