Naked From the Waist Down

Well, it's been a little over three weeks since we began potty training and I must say, it's been incredibly successful by my standards! I think the key to our success is not giving up, paying attention to little one's cues (obsessively), celebrating successes, and reinforcement (read M&Ms, marshmallows, white chocolate chips, or whatever you normally wouldn't give a toddler, on hand). Granted, we've had plenty of time on our hands to do this, but truly, he's totally getting it! We haven't had a pee accident in days (when he doesn't have pants on) and while still working on the other, he's now telling us when he's doing it/or done it and getting it in the potty a great deal! I'm impressed. While there have been days I've wanted to throw in the towel (as late as last week), he's doing so well now, I couldn't possible imagine giving in and throwing him in a diaper. So, I just felt the need to brag a little about Raf's progress in this department. Yes, I've been obsessive and yes, I realize he's not really trained in the sense that he's taking himself or able to do the things to do it himself like pull down his pants, but this is certainly one way to use less diapers and ultimately, I think he'll train earlier, unless he totally regresses (which I really thought he was doing in days past and is still possible, I'm sure). But now, we put him on the potty, he willingly sits if he has to go and then, he goes and you can see he's really making the connection. Hooray! Now I may be blogging about how he's still in diapers when we send him off to college, but for now, I'm happy with what he's been accomplishing and am encouraged enough to continue down this potty training road.....
